When Should You Switch Your Puppy to Adult Food?

My puppy is transitioning to adult food. She is a 15 month old Labrador Retriever. Based on different articles and vet advice I’m now making the switch. Great article below for guidance. Also worth checking with your vet as each breed and size dog can be different and your vet can give you an idea if bone growth is done.

It’s a good idea to introduce new food gradually to avoid any chance of an upset stomach. Mixing the new food  into the old food and building up the amount gradually over 5 days is an easy way to do it. As always, consult your vet with any questions.

Day 1 – Mix 20% of new food with 80% of the old

Day 2 – Mix 40% of the new food with 60% of the old

Day 3 – Mix 60% of new food with 40% of the old

Day 4 – Mix 80% of the new food with 20% of the old

Day 5 – Mix 100% new food! Done!

Vetericyn Wound & Skin Care

This is a great product to keep on hand. Over 900 great reviews on Amazon as well. I recently went to the vet and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they recommend this product as well. So great when your own search for a product matches up with a Vet recommendation!  Helpful notes…it’s a spray which makes it a bit easier to get the spot as your dog runs away from you.  It also doesn’t sting on a fresh cut which is good to know. I actually sprayed it on a cut on my own hand to test that out. Keeping the wound moist will help it heal faster.

Kong Zoom GroomKong Zoom Groom Brush

I have used these for years and they are wonderful for shorter hair dogs like Labrador Retrievers.  Very durable, last for years and also great to use while washing your dog.  Various sizes available and gentle enough for puppies. I tend to shy away from metal type brushes as have had some negative results. I have used these a few times for new puppy gifts and they are always well received.
